The main component of this necklace is acai nut which grows on acai palms in swampy areas of the Amazon rainforest. Acai palms grow naturally as an integrated part of the forest. Harvesting the seeds from acai palms do not hurt the trees and they can continue to be fruitful for up to 40 years. This kind of sustainable jungle harvesting provides local people with a sustainable income and helps to prevent clear cutting the Amazon for forestry or farming purposes.
